eco-design paper examples
Primagreen
Primagreen - the product of 15 months invested in research & development - is the first thin paper in the world to be the result of an eco-designed process. The net environmental benefit attributed to Primagreen amounts to an annual reduction of more than 2,200 metric tons of CO2 per year compared to the using standard grade papers at the same basis weight.
In the process, we have optimized the selection of our raw materials to improve the environmental performance of the final product. This eco-design work has led us to:
- Introduce up to 50% post-consumer recycled pulp
- Select the suppliers of pulp - recycled and traditional - according to strict environmental criteria
- Replace a large volume of titanium dioxide with precipitated calcium carbonate
- Remove the optical bleaching agents that are energy intensive, both in their use as well as eliminating these chemicals from the waste stream.
Primacoat green
Primacoat Green is the next eco designed thin paper developed by Bolloré Thin Papers as a result of the work of the cell ACV / Eco design created earlier this year by Papeteries du Léman.
The formulation of Primacoat Green, which was validated by test printing as 100% positive with pilot customers, ensures a high CIE whiteness, equal to 131.
- FSC certified and 75% recycled paper solutions, Primacoat Green is the first creation resulting from the Bolloré Thin Papers eco-design unit.
- Green version of Primacoat Silk, a standard, lightweight coated grade market as Primacoat High Brite.
- Ideal for direct mail catalogs and mailings, is available in 50 g/m², 55 g/m² and 60 g/m².
Primafree
Primafree 28.5 g/m², made without titanium dioxide.
- Innovation ability
For one of its customers, Bolloré Thin Papers eco-design cell developed the Primafree 28.5 g/m² quality, a Primalux Hi-brite 28.5 g/m² paper made without titanium dioxide and with 10% recycled fibres
- The substitution of titanium dioxide for PCC
Enables savings of 84% on non renewable resources (126 years of reserves !)
- Real technological prowess
The introduction of 10% recycled fibres in such low grammage paper enables environmental gains of:
==> 12% on greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels
==> 4% for water pumping
==> 8% for total primary fuel consumption
==> 3% of waste production
