With Junium, Copacel is bringing paper back to schools

Since 1999, and in collaboration with Junium, Copacel has been organising animation sessions in CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes in primary schools.

The objective of these animated activities in schools is to improve their perception about the product and the paper industry by providing regular information based on proven educational standards. In particular, it addresses negative ideas about cardboard & paper which is so often the target of these ideas. The speakers, who are trained on the subject of paper and on child education, host an activity for two hours which is adapted to children with specific tools: using cartoons or comic strips on paper which are distributed to children, organising a manual activity that enables the class to create a sheet of paper, showing a film especially produced for young audiences that talks about the history, manufacturing, and the world of paper, serving as a driving force throughout the animation session...

Moreover, the teacher is given an educational booklet with the invitation to develop this theme during different activities; the teacher also receives a poster to be displayed in class illustrating the “paper cycle.” Last year, 211 animated sessions were carried out and 5,000 students benefited from that. Assessment of these events highlights the success of the conferences with teachers, and demonstrates, in particular, the impact of these sessions on the childrens’ and teachers’ perceptions about activities relating to paper. It is true that the cardboard paper concept is well received in primary schools, because it extends to the teachings of History, Geography, Science, and Arts.

For the 2012 school year 230 events are scheduled, two of which have been sponsored by Bolloré Thin Papers : the first in an elementary school in Laval, the municipality where Papeteries des Vosges is located, October the 4th and the second in Publier, where Papeteries du Léman is located.
